Term Paper: Harry S. Truman 1. Harry Truman was born on May 8, 1884 at Lamar, Missouri, as the oldest child. He had a brother, whoremonger Vivian along with sister Mary Jane Truman. His family moved several clock during his childhood. For example, in 1890, his have John Anderson Truman, who was a farmer and a livestock dealer, moved with his family from Grandview to Independence (Ferris 271). Due to his poor eyesight, he was prevented from joining in many of the childhood activities. He had to wear thick specs since he was five, which was puzzling to his neighbors (Hamilton 274).
