The life of Voltaire was not always so easy and he went through major changes in his philosophical system over time. He grew up studying, ironically, in a Jesuitical run boarding school only to later resurrect against his fathers efforts to turn him into a lawyer (Gordon 1). He soon started to turn against his origins with the Jesuits and in the early 1720s he tranquil poems pom-poming Christianity and the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church (Gordon 1). He unploughed these in secret but eventually became a celebrity in France from his other writings.
It is possible that it is his childhood that started his philosophical views, delivery him his vast popularity with the people. He was, in many ways, adored by them, and yet he was a skeptic, overwhelmed by long periods of dubiety and pessimism (Gordon 2).
