Abstract
The ACI code defines a rationalise shell as a Three-dimensional spacial structure made up of one or more curved slabs or folded plates whose thicknesses are small compared to their other dimensions. cover shell structures are able to span large distances with a minimal amount of material. In maintaining this economy of material, these forms have a light, aesthetic, sculptural appeal. Thin shells offer many of the attributes that architects and engineers are look for in an ideal structure. The shell structure is constructed either with stop consonant or without diaphragm. The main purpose of diaphragm is to transmit asquint forces to the vertical resisting members.
To understand the performance and behavior of shell the finite broker modeling approach is a very great aspect. The finite element analysis methods result in the adjudicate distribution, displacements and reaction loads at supports etc. for the model. exhaustible particle Analysis is performed for both linear and non-linear problems to design and analysis / paygrade situations.
In this study the finite element modeling of 3-D shell structures has been done to understand its performance during earthquake utilise SAP 2000 (version 14). The structure is idealized as an assemblage of thin constant thickness shell element with each element subdivided into 3 enumerates of layers. The layered shell allows any number of layers to be defined in the thickness direction, each with an breakaway location, thickness, behavior, and material. Material behavior may be non linear.
