However, Ralph seems to be more rational. This shoes the possibleness of it going to his head. It eventually does, leaving him almost craving power. Jack and Ralph run for chief, and Ralph wins the vote by a long shot. A rivalry quickly ensues.
The main conflict in the story is Jack vs. Ralph. Ralph is elected chief, making Jack jealous. This jealousy will eat at him, until he can think of nought else.



From the beginning, Jack focuses on hunting meat, seeming almost consumed by the idea, while Ralph attempts to make shelters and rules. Ralph doesnt get very untold support from the other kids. When he attempts to build shelters, hes forced to do it by himself. This leads to anger from both parties. Jack takes full advantage of this and attempts to turn the kids against Ralph, setting up the plot.
The plot is a very unconventional one. It thrives on fear, turning the kids against each other as they slowly slip into hysteria.
